Roof Flashing Leak at a Chimney, Wall, or Vent
How to distinguish a flashing or penetration detail from the interior stain and request a component-specific repair instead of another surface patch.

1. Map when and where water appears
Record the room, ceiling or wall location, rainfall timing and direction, wind conditions, roof feature above the area, prior repairs, and whether the stain grows during every storm. 2. Identify the complete water-shedding detail

4. Verify the repair without promising a leak-free roof
Request completion photographs before concealed layers are covered, identified materials, final dimensions, changed decking or underlayment, cleanup, and warranty terms. A controlled water check may be useful when the contractor determines it is appropriate, but one test cannot prove the absence of every intermittent path or future defect elsewhere on the roof.
